Contador 2012

Bodega Contador is an iconic brand and the winemaker Benjamin Romeo is indeed very popular worldwide.  His wines represent the maximum expression of the land, embraces winemaker’s full passion and attention to details.

CONTADOR  is the flagship wine of “Bodega Contador” which received Robert Parker 100 points for two consecutive years of 2004 and 2005.    Fermentation is done in oak vats and 100% New French oak is used for barrels.  It takes 19 months for “Crianza” barrel ageing.  Based on the 4,500 liters of free run juice obtained, after the racking and the consequent removal of lees, shrink and the filling of barrels, we got 3,975 liters of Contador 2010 to produce 5,300 bottles of this vintage.  100% new French oak is used for ageing.

Like every year, to develop Contador 2010, the winery made an interpretation of the crop based on the climate and the ripeness of the grapes.  According to this interpretation the winery chose the vineyards that were previously cited, with the clusters which had the best characters to develop this flagship wine. This selection is special to look for the perfect balance between acidity, alcohol and tannin.

Wine Advocate (Robert Parker) said, “one of the most memorable days in Rioja was spending in the company of the inimitable Benjamin Romeo.  He is one of Rioja’s greatest producers, and two 100 point scores for his 2004 and 2005 vintages of Contador”.

Contador 2010 has a purple red color with high intensity and brightness.  In the nose, plus red and black fruits mature, appears the character of balsamic and aromatic herbs (thyme, rosemary, lavender and fennel).  It also shows a marked mineral character with fine and well integrated wood notes.  The palate is fine and powerful.  It is very fine.  It shows a great balance between fruit and oak.  Final aftertaste is long and intense.
